Today was hard, today I missed it by a mile - I was impatient, indignant, proud, unloving, abrupt, lazy, resentful, jealous and so much more. Every day I have to battle through my imperfections. I see my weaknesses like a glaring spotlight has been placed on them. I am so aware of my shortcomings. So many ways I fall short of who I should be.
I could try and cover it up, hide it or suppress it - but who would I be kidding? My children can see right through the "cover story", my husband knows the truth - he knows who I am (and loves me anyway) and I would know. There is no place to hide from the truth.
But thank goodness through being honest about who I am to those around me, by being real, by revealing my weaknesses - I know it has the power to change all things.

......when I am weak......... you can be too
you can be honest and reveal your fears and failures because you know there is someone else who understands
.....when I am honest...... you don't have to pretend
to be more or do more than you really are
.....when I confess
God can work with me
He can mould me
Change me
Renew me
And help me become the person He wants me to be
Psalm 51
1 Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight;
so you are right in your verdict
and justified when you judge.
5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb;
you taught me wisdom in that secret place.
and my sin is always before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight;
so you are right in your verdict
and justified when you judge.
5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb;
you taught me wisdom in that secret place.
7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
9 Hide your face from my sins
and blot out all my iniquity.
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
9 Hide your face from my sins
and blot out all my iniquity.
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
so that sinners will turn back to you.
14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
you who are God my Savior,
and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
15 Open my lips, Lord,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart
you, God, will not despise.
so that sinners will turn back to you.
14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
you who are God my Savior,
and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
15 Open my lips, Lord,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart
you, God, will not despise.
18 May it please you to prosper Zion,
to build up the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous,
in burnt offerings offered whole;
then bulls will be offered on your altar.
to build up the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous,
in burnt offerings offered whole;
then bulls will be offered on your altar.

Wow! You know, most days I can say, I missed it by a mile! Yet, over and over and over again, He blots out my transgressions and give me yet another chance. I love that Psalm so much. Thank you for posting it here, as I needed to read it today. May God bless you, dear one, as you continue to be inside out!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cora. Glad that this was a post that could encourage you. I know that today was one of those days where I was so grateful for God and His word and there is still hope - even when we mess up.
DeleteOh, I fail so often as well. More often than I feel I do well. Thank goodness for grace! I love these verses because when we recognize our sin and bring it to him, he not only forgives but he loves hearts that are humble and heals our brokenness.
ReplyDeleteWe all fall all the time if we were just honest about it and I agree fully. Its the brokenness and humility which allows God to work with us. It's when we don't lie to ourselves and others, or when we refuse to be too proud to admit our weaknesses.
ReplyDeleteVery powerful post.
ReplyDeleteThank you Denise, we serve a powerful God!
DeleteWe are in the same place today, but I am finding that yes, we are sinful from birth, but it is not our lack of sin that saves us, it is our faith in Jesus' saving work. That was true for Moses and Noah and Abraham as much as it is for us. When we look toward God and see Him as He is, we break, but God does not wants us to stay broken. He lifts us up so that we can look into His glorious face. Alleluia!

Absolutely! And I always know that he wants to lift me up, and its the only way I will survive myself.
DeleteOh, how familiar I am with the falling short, the missing the mark. Thankful for His unfailing love and tender mercies. And thank you for this post.
