I was busy writing the third installment of how to get your children reading, as I have had such an amazingly positive response to part 1 and part 2 today - but I know that there are some of you who read this blog who probably are not big readers and in fact don't "get" the importance of reading. So I thought I would post a couple of thoughts by fairly well known and unknown individuals who have left a mark - of what they thought/ think about reading.

ReplyDeleteI know, though I often feel like I encourage my children to read but often don't read enough myself - always other things to be done.
DeleteI started my children reading by making reading 2 chapters as part of their chores.....make your bed, clean your room, feed the pets, read your 2 chapters - or speak to the hand!!! Today my children (12 and 14) read 800 page books in a day! I believe reading is one of your greatest accomplishments! Also, reading should be something your children watch you do!

Lisl I think that's a brilliant idea. Some take to it so naturally and others need to form the habit first and THEN they take to it. There is one of my boys who needs this type of approach. Thank you for your excellent idea.
